First Directing Project!

The Notre Dame de Namur University Department of Theatre and Dance annual Student Showcase productions return to the Notre Dame Theatre stage February 9, 10 and 11. This year’s senior Directors are Morgan Lewis, Lindsay Saier and Jennifer M Salmeron, all of who are veterans of numerous NDNU Theatre and Dance productions. The 2012 Showcase consists of two comedies and a drama.

This Property Is Condemned is a dramatic one act by Tennessee Williams. It takes place in the early 1940s in rural Mississippi, and focuses on a chance encounter between two young teenagers. The show features junior, Margaret Gorrell, and freshmen, Terry Kitagawa, under direction of senior Lindsay Saier.

Suppressed Desires by Susan Glaspell is a quirky, slapstick farce about a Freudian, psychoanalyzed ménage à trois. The cast of Suppressed Desires features Jazmyne Holly, Terry Kittagawa and Hailey Smith. “If you think you knew what it meant to dream about hens, just wait.! “ says Suppressed Desires Director Jennifer M Salmeron

Larry Gets the Call was written by Matt Casarino. The cast of Terry Gets the Call features Shelby Valero, Hailey Smith and George Metropolus. “Larry Gets the Call Director Morgan Lewis describes the play as “ A clever and thought provoking comedy about a man who is summoned to meet his fate.”

Each night of the Showcase performances will include presentations of two short scenes and a monologue performed by NDNU Theatre and Dance students who have been selected to participate in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Irene Ryan Acting Competition in Fort Collins Colorado February 12-17.

Morgan Lewis, Margaret Gorrell and Danielle Vivion were nominated to compete by visiting faculty respondents who attended the NDNU productions of Noises Off! last spring and The Three Sisters last fall.

The Student Showcases will be presented in the Notre Dame Theatre at 7:30 p.m. February 9, 10, and 11. Admission to performances is free to NDNU students, faculty and staff. General Admission is $10. The theatre Box Office will open one hour before curtain each night.
